As teachers, we constantly create valuable resources for our classrooms. What if those resources could also generate income and give you more freedom? The answer is simple: you can! Many teachers are already making money online by selling their classroom resources, and you can too.
What Do You Need to Start?
The good news is, you likely already have most of what you need!
- A Laptop, PC, or Mac: This is your essential workstation.

- Google Slides: Free and widely accessible.
- PowerPoint: A classic and powerful tool.
- Canva: Offers both free and pro versions, excellent for design. (Just remember not to use it for "clip art" creation, as it's not ideal for that.)
For high-quality visual elements:
- Clip Art: Creative Fabrica is recommended as a great source for clip art.
- You can also purchase clip art from other artists on platforms like Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) and Etsy. Always pay attention to commercial use licenses!
What Kind of Resources Should You Create?
Think about what you, as a teacher, find most useful. Digital and printable resources like worksheets and task cards are highly in demand. The best content to create is often the resource you already need for your own classroom. If it's useful for you, it will likely be useful for other teachers as well!
When Is the Best Time to Start?
The answer is simple: NOW! Don't waste time. The sooner you start, the sooner you can begin to learn, gain experience, and make the money that will help pay your bills and give you some financial freedom. Even a little bit of progress each day adds up.
Finding the Time
I know, as a teacher, finding time to do another side hustle can be hard. But even with a 9-5 (or longer!) schedule, you can find at least one hour per day to work on your online business, or dedicate some time during the weekend. Finding effective pockets of time will make earning extra money much easier.
Why Sell on Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT)?
While you can sell on any platform you prefer, TPT is highly recommended, especially for teachers.
- High Traffic: TPT has an immense amount of traffic specifically from teachers.
- Most Known: It's the most known and widely used marketplace for teachers to buy and sell resources.
